Re - Tulled!!

Next week, Moore College of Art and Design is hosting it's annual Jump Start fashion show.  And the theme is Re-Tulled... a tribute to the Pennsylvania Ballet's 50th Anniversary.  I am THERE!  The only thing that I love more than fashion, ballet, and big tulle skirt is chocolate.
Now, how can I have a hot chocolate during the fashion show?  LOL

Denise Fike

"No gift to your Mother can ever equal her gift to you"
So true... and we rack our brains for the perfect gift year after year, hoping to see that look on her face that says we got it right.  Hope you did well this year....

But you know, there are still anniversaries, birthdays, and Christmas to shop for... and the the best gift of all, the "just because" gift.  My suggestion?

My experience:
Photo Cred - Denise Fike

I was invited to my friend Denise's home to take photos for a family portrait!
*When you schedule your appointment, I'm sure it will be in her beautiful Pine Street Studio*
So, on a brisk Saturday morning I dressed my family in ensembles that I considered casual and chic.... you know it crossed my mind to go full on glam and do tuxedos and a sequined gown, but then I REALLY wanted it to look like "us".  And quiet as it's kept, full on glam is not our normal look. So... after painstakingly thinking about my jewelry and headwrap (much to my Honey's chagrin) and finding just the right blue scarf for Baby we hurried out the door already 20 minutes late!
Denise always makes us feel completely at home. We laughed and chatted about our weekend, decorating plans, laughed at Baby's fascination with her beautiful Great Dane (aptly named Dolce)... and made plans for the next play date with her adorable grandson.  All the while, Denise snapped photo after photo occasionally positioning us here and there.... an hour later she had enough pictures and asked what kind of portrait we'd like.  I completely trust Denise, she's been to our home and knows my style, so I decided to let her surprise us... whatever she thinks will look great in our apartment.  That's the other thing, Denise has impeccable style and design experience coming out of her ears... you should see her home!
** So, you can explain your design aesthetic and she will paint something absolutely perfect for you.**
Can't wait to hang our portrait!

So...  I missed my train this morning (totally SEPTA's fault... or maybe I didn't read the board correctly *giggle*). But, I did have time to see COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) at 30th Street Station. Fan -friggin- tastic!

From PAFA:
KAWS will kick off PAFA's Sculpture Plinth Exhibition Program, which will present a rotating series of site-specific, attention-catching sculptures in an unexpected location - the facade of PAFA's Historic Landmark Building on North Broad Street, just a block from City Hall.  In addition, PAFA will install works by KAWS in our galleries, providing an intriguing link between the Museum's 19th century art collection and KAWS' contemporary pieces.

Stephen Burrows!

Definitely making a trip to see this exhibit....

"And next month, in recognition of Mr. Burrows, who is 69, as the first internationally successful African-American designer, the Museum of the City of New York has announced it will stage the first large-scale exhibition of his early work. Beginning March 22, more than 50 of his designs, including a chromatically colored jersey jumpsuit that Carrie Donovan plucked from his boutique inside Henri Bendel in 1970 for Cher to wear in a Vogue photo shoot, will be on display, along with videos, photos and one of his Coty Awards. Mr. Burrows was the first African-American designer to receive one." ~New York Times Fashion & Style

The Blonds!

I was in a meeting yesterday, and someone (Ian Michael Crumm) mentioned that The Blonds Fall Winter 2013/14 was fantastic!  I haven't thought about The Blonds in.... I don't know how long (as I slowly peek my head out of the world surrounding my toddler... LOL).  Of course, as soon as Baby was asleep I snuggled in with my laptop and oohed and ahhed as each gorgeous piece appeared on the runway.  This collection is a whole new take on retro glam.  Enjoy!

Oz The Great and Powerful

I was super-psyched to see Oz.... I love all things related to the yellow brick road.  If you've ever imagined what went on in the Wonderful Land of Oz before little Miss Gayle skipped in, you'll love this story.  But you have to be that kind of super fan (and I am) not to fall asleep through the beginning of this movie.  It gets much more entertaining towards the end when the witches get wicked and the wizard pulls out his bag of tricks.  Kudos to the set and costume designers, I could watch this movie on mute all day long.  Except.... as much as the wicked sisters were giving evil fierceness in each shot, Glinda was dressed for the local theater guild's production of Romeo and Juliet.  Maybe the wicked witches magically canceled her Vogue Magazine subscription. *shrug*
No matter whose look you're into, HSN has a one-of-a-kind "Wickedly Beautiful shopping event... and I have to say, even though I'm not an HSN shopper (yet), I liked the options... a little something for everyone.

There's even a "Cast a Spell" Oz inspired Home Collection!

On the Red Carpet

When Charlize Theron, appeared on the 2013 Oscar Red Carpet, I knew it was over for everyone else.  She is everything in a simple white peplum gown (Christian Dior Couture) with simple jewelry and pixie haircut.

The Ultimate Yellow Brick is Gold!

I couldn't help but think of that line from The Wiz when I came across this gorgeous pic of Danielle Allen (stylist).  This is the way to do gold knit and gold studs.

"Toile" has a good day at de la Renta

Big toile at Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013 Ready to Wear .....

These silhouettes could look a little ho hum, but the large toile print takes it to a cool modern hip place... makes it artsy, and sort of for the fashion girl "in the know".  Right?

Side note: Styled with the huge Tudor inspired necklaces and sheer gloves makes me swoon.

IVANAhelsinki's coat of many colors

Oh this reminds me of going to elementary school on a brisk October day in a felt or wool school girl coat (**whispering** in the seventies).   I LOVE! ....probably would cinch that waist with a belt for my shape, but otherwise I'm so in to IVANAhelsinki Fall 2013

The Carrie Diaries

I'm a huge Sex and the City fan.  Huge fan! And as much as I'm not interested in lovesick teenage coming of age stories, I'm a woman of a certain age after all..... I was really looking forward to The Carrie Diaries. Thrilled that it starts off in 1984 (coincidentally, right around the time I was starting high school), but... it's not written for my demographic.  I'll still be watching though... how much fun is Eric Daman having styling 80's perfection?!  And how much fun must it be to put a soundtrack to this show?

Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls just want to have fun' is going to be stuck in my head for a week.

Where'd you get those peepers....

Sponsored Post

Yes, after many many many years of doing the 'I really need glasses squint', I've made an appointment to see an Optometrist.  Now, I just need to keep the appointment (Something always makes you reschedule. Can I get an Amen from the Mom Choir?!).

Oh to be able to see every little Cheerio that hasn't been swept up from breakfast and all my little artist's scribbles on the wall once I get the proper lenses. Ha!  I'm sure there will be moments when I'll pine for the days it was all a blur.

You know me though, always looking for the silver lining. It is an accessory and an opportunity to shop!  So... who do I want to emulate?  Remember how unbelievably chic Lena Horne looked in those Gap ads?

Or how about take that feminine shape to extremes and do some cat eye glasses, a la Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire!  Those would be fun!
In any case, I need to start shopping for the glasses now, the appointment is in late February, so I want to have a good grip on what fits my face before I buy glasses

Of course I'll start with a little online shopping. Eyeglasses online.... SMH... I marvel at what's available at the click of a mouse.  We live in a marvelous age Style Shepherd followers, a marvelous age.

So.... lets get to it.  What eyeglasses fit my style? Go from playgroup to cocktails?  I may need more than one pair. *smile* Any ol'reason to shop.

I really like this Spy Buddy Tortoiseshell Eyeglasses... they may be a little hipster for cocktails, but for playgroup and running off to the museum, I think they'll work.

... Oh and these iSee in pink are young, sassy Mom-around town..... hmmm maybe to young for me, but I do like a punch of color, and a durable plastic frame.

Uh oh, look what I found on a whole section of Cat Eye glasses!  I think these are my favorite, Muse Lola Black. A stronger version of the Lena Horne style, they're giving off a serious Eartha Kitt as Cat Woman vibe.  Meow!

I would love to hear which ones are your favorite.  And if you too are in the market for a fabulous pair of glasses, browse through Besides their high quality frames and lenses, they offer a 110% lowest price guarantee and a 100% satisfaction guarantee along with a generous refer-a-friend program. Additionally, you can stay up-to-date on all GlassesUSA happenings through their Facebook page ( and their Twitter feed (@GlassesUSA).

Still in the holiday spirit....

After a really creative meeting today, I passed by this gorgeous little holiday oasis on 2nd and League Street (Phila)..... had to share.
