On Wednesday, I love Street Peeper

Where have I been?  Seems like everybody knows Street Peeper! Oh well, when ya know better, ya do better, ..... and my voyeuristic fashion desires are more than satisfied by this site.

This is from Street Peeper's March 25th, Street Style Recap.
Yasmin Sewell, buyer for Liberty of London, in a sheer black CHRISTOPHER KANE dress with pleated skirt and black ACNE peep-toe heels.

Exerpt from Street Peeper:

"I started Street Peeper like late 2006, early 2007'ish after a variety of odd jobs: failed internet start-up, co-author of a trashy novel, (used copies starting at $0.01 on Amazon!), fired from 12 restaurants in NYC, occasional party promoter, and I sold Beanie Babies out of my NYU dorm room... so that's me in a nutshell... Hope you like Street Peeper."

Viva La Chic!!!!

Love, love, love Viva La Chic!  This Etsy shop is full of surprises... so its perfect for me.  I need these little Kissing Sparrows hanging out on my collarbone.....  Light bulb! They would be fab with a chocolate fitted tweed jacket and vest... and of course jeans (I am an American... shrug).
Note to self: keep eye out for chocolate jacket and vest for fall.
.... And then, on my very creative days.... when I wake up, feeling like a *Lolita Goth, Harajuku girl, I can tie on this very modern Victorian rose necklace, and a very simple black get-up....  I may feel Harajuku, but I never go all out.  I get it, but its all to to girly for me.
It's AMAZING to be able to buy both of these pieces in the same shop.
  Viva la Viva La Chic!

If you look up Goth Harajuku Girl in the dictionary, this picture will be there.

This blurb and pic is from Mooky Chic, ... need some extra inspiration, check out Mooky Chic.
Lolita fashion is inspired by the clothing of Victorian women and children. It often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Other influences include goth style, horror movies, the punk subculture and anime characters.

Profile Pic of the Week, Miss Lady Kier!

How do you say, De-Groovy? How do you say, De-Gorgeous?

Awww yee uh!   Who can forget this chorus?   Groove is in the hea-a-a-art, Groove is in the hea-a-a-art, Groove is in the hea-a-a-art (astronomical), Groove is in the hea-a-a-art (hit me!)

Alice in Wonderland!

Well..... Just saw the movie, and I hate to dog any artist but.... the dialogue.... was boring,  the few snappy one liners kept the story marginally interesting... on the other hand, it was BEAUTIFUL! One gorgeous visual after the next.... from the Mad Hatter's White Eyelashes to Alice's Joan of Arc ensemble to slay the Jabberwocky. Absolutely fantastic!  Loved the Red Queen's tiny little corseted waist, heart mouth, and waves of blood red hair.... wish the movie was centered around her character.....  loved her maniacal  indifference  to her subjects.

Dialoque aside, I was really inspired by the rich, lavish, and generous amount of color, that went into every frame of this movie.  So, of course I start thinking like a stylist, ..... how does this translate into my world.  What does one wear to tea with the Mad Hatter?  Can I get away with ivory in the White Queen's court?  I can't imagine, the end result, but I know I need accessories, with rich color.  Let's go!

Well! I guess I can't go wrong with this heart shaped petal brooch,
perfect for my job as design assistant to the Mad Hatter.

..... And if I must walk through the brambles, in search of tea parties and have deep philosophical chats with a disappearing and reappearing Cheshire cat, I need to do it in this hat.... actually, it would be wonderful if I could get it in white too.... Need something for the white queen's dinner party.
I also need to invest in some versatile pieces that can go with everything from a Gap tee and denim shorts to hang out with the brothers Dum and Dee, or lunch with Alice... making sure not to eat the cake..... What is that about? Drink me and I'm small, Eat me and I'm huge.  Mmmmm hmmm...... There is an Alice in Wonderland liquid diet product in there somewhere.  Note to self: Email Alice about being the face of 'Get Slim in Wonderland'.  Perfect!  A Collage Necklace!  I have a feeling that in Wonderland, there are no Casual Fridays.... Thank God!
Ohhh.... crochet and ribbon earrings! Bright and whimsical,
easy 'go to' piece for the unpredictable Wonderland social scene.

God forbid, should Alice be down with H1N1 or the bird flu... there are a LOT of unbelievable species in Wonderland, .... sharing teacups and licking wounds, ..... that's got to keep the clinics busy.... I'm just sayin', if I have to step up and be Champion for the day, I want to wear these sterling silver rabbit earrings, in honor of a certain waist coated rabbit..... Let's face it, most of us get into all the good parties on his coattails.  Snap.

Shopaholic Thursday!

I have two events planned for May, that require careful wardrobe planning.
OMG! Diana Ross is coming to Radio City Music Hall, May 19th
..... and Sex and the City II opens on May 28th!
What a month?!

So... both events need fantastic accessories, and I'll be shopping at
Patricia Field Online - the New York stylist from Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Devil Wears Prada's online boutique ....and my go to shop for all things sparkly.

Right now, I'm thinking these shoes for Diana, cause they are Fie -yah! ........ with jeans, a cute little shirt, and work the makeup (thinking feather eyelashes for this event). I'll feel very 'me' ...very quietly though, I've been pondering a reinvention, what if I went for an airy little dress, fishnets and bad girl shoes? .....Hmmmmm, a little out of my comfort zone (not practical for embarking/disembarking a NYC taxi) but its an option that's on the table. We'll see.

Buy $148

For the Sex and the City event (BTW scheduling a time and day when all of my Bezzie Mates can attend, has been a nightmare, sigh)
....maybe, a Carrie necklace (to literal?) or this Rhinestone Fleur Double Ring. It's a perfect night for a big cocktail bauble, think about how many pictures we'll take with a raised martini glass, mmm hmmm see? Ya need a ring!
Buy $18.

.....these Ankle Ski Heels and a smoky eye.
Buy $48

I'm open to all suggestions, feel free to comment.

Perfect way to start the day.......

Profile Pic of the Week, Ms. Nikki Bruce!

Well, if you must post a profile pic, go all out!
It's Vilma Banky, Marlene Dietrich, Pam Grier, and Josephine Baker all rolled into one modern day... I'm just relaxing after work, ...wait let me take my glasses off, ... profile pic.
You bettah werk Mama!

And our Cover Girls favorite quote is by the late great
Marilyn Monroe.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you damn sure don't deserve me at my best.
-Marilyn Monroe

I've been friends with Nikki since 3rd grade... no need to say how many years that has been... let's just say, birds of a feather, flock together, ..... forever. Even though the Marilyn quote is VERY Nikki, when asked for another she sent me this one, I'm not sure who to attribute it to but Nik is the kind of friend who acts like nothing ever happened. Thanks Nikki!

A GOOD friend comforts you when you are humiliated, a GREAT friend, acts like nothing ever happened.

Blogging!

Blogging started out for me, as just an email list of fashion friends, who I sent a newsletter to. It was all about shopping networks, reminders about the sales at MACY'S, Target, Gilt, and of course, judging the red carpet. Then, my cousin Mikey, who is a mental health proffesional (that's right, I get free therapy! LOL) suggested Blogger, and dragged me into facebook and twitter as well. Check out her mention (Miss Philly) on The Style And Beauty Doctor.

So onto the good karma of sharing....

1. Be Authentic!

The Zen Of Blogging: 7 Steps On The Virtual Path To Real Success, by Lee Wind. is the best book for bloggers.

My Ah hah moment, came in this passage:
You know you need a blog, but you don't need "a" blog - you need YOUR blog,....

2. Give!

The old adage, 'tis better to give than receive is a lesson I learned by following Audrey's Giveaway Blog. Her followers are not only enticed by the contest and giveaways, but when you read their comments, you can also see how much we appreciate Audrey's .... what are the words I'm looking for?... Audrey's personal shopping! It opens virtual windows to so many fantastic sites, sites that we would never be privvy to, if not for Audrey.

3. Cross Train!

Use as many outlets as you can, Stylist Diva can be found on
Delightful Blogs, Blogger, IFB, , stylehive, bloglovin. Dip into as many waters that will automatically post your blog as possible.

4. Be Informative!

The best example of being informative is The Body Beautiful by Allegra and uwishunu. Both have found a niche and zeroed in on it. The Body Beautiful is all about health and fitness, uwishunu (pronounced - you wish you knew) is all about the happenings in Philadelphia.

5. Visuals!

**from V Magazine**

My first newsletter did not include pictures. Describing a floral printed silk and chiffon empire dress, with studded leather skinny belt, was a challenge. Posting images is a LOT easier. It has the same affect as a magazine cover. Check out Anthroppologie Addict, and the Sartorialist for some great examples.

Happy Blogging!

When it rains...

You know what I love about rain, snow, sleet... the boots! Today, I really needed something to make me feel fab, and it's going to have to be a fabulous pair of earrings, because the boots I have all have a at least a 4" heel, .... not good for the errands I have to run today. This is what I wish I had. Buy $79

...... and I definitely need these for a warmer Spring day, to wear with jeans and a cute little trench. Buy $59

Which means I need a new umbrella too..... I love this one from Target, doesn't it look like old fashioned ribbon candy... mmmmm, sweet. Buy $21.99

Belted!

Whenever I see a rack of men's belts, I go straight to it, and rifle through it like a maniac. Inevitably, a sales associate makes a cautious approach, and offers help. Do I need help making a mess of your display? No. I do not. Where did this obsession start? If I had to guess, I'd say it started with a Christmas present from my Mother, a long time ago... a studded suede six gun holster, with mother of pearl... well... pearl-esque snaps. And of course it came with a matching cowboy hat and toy pistol. Ah, the good ol days... my Mother would never approve of a child playing with a gun today, 'the times they are a changing'.

Imagine Christmas circa 1975, and after the presents are opened and the wrapping paper cleared away it's time to go to Grandma's house for the Holiday. Dressed in a peter pan collar, patent leather mary janes, a ribbon in my Afro, and after much pleading and pouting, I was also allowed to wear my six gun holster. I've been smitten by a wide masculine belt ever since.

Just to be clear this is not about a wide belt that could double as a corset, I'm talking sleek Cary Grant, studded Steven Tyler, weathered Marlboro man,... belts! And my favorite way to style it, is the way my Dad wore his in the mid 80s, ... like a swashbuckling pirate. LOL Seriously, in a time when the relaxed fit of Hip Hop, Miami Vice and American Gigolo were in vogue, my Father translated that by tying a belt that had a perfectly functioning buckle at his waist. Loved to see him in a crisp cotton oxford shirt and wide napped cords with a weathered belt tied at his waist.
So cool.
